Tri-County Master Gardeners is a member group of the organization Master Gardeners of Ontario Inc. (MGOI). Master Gardeners of Ontario Inc. was established as a non-profit charity in 1985. MGOI is comprised of 27 individual groups in communities across Ontario with 654 Master Gardeners and Master Gardeners in Training who volunteered almost 43,000 hours of their time in 2023. The objective of the Master Gardener program is to provide a high-quality, science-based, horticultural resource to communities.
Master Gardeners share their knowledge of horticulture by answering questions from the public, presenting and conducting workshops on current horticultural topics, problem-solving garden issues, building connections with like-minded people and organizations, and promoting sustainable horticultural practices. We also just have fun and enjoy making social connections with our members and the public.
Volunteer opportunities can include participation in organizing your local group’s activities, participating in local or provincial (MGOI) committees, and even volunteering to help steer the provincial organization by participating on the Board of Directors. I myself am currently in my second year of volunteering as the Director of Operations for MGOI. It gives me the opportunity to use my skills to benefit the provincial organization and its members. I find it rewarding to give back to the organization that supports my passion and the environment around me.
